Author - John, Son Zebedee and Salome, brother of James, a follower of John the Baptist, the disciple that Jesus loved, a fisherman by vocation. 

Purpose - Chapter 20: 30, ~ 

Content - Written for people of Creek heritage and background 
Elements refute the "Gnostic" heresy 
Not a synoptic Gospel, rather seems to "supplement" the other three by its content 
Vivid dialogue; few miracles (8); details more of what Jesus said than what he did. 
Jesus speaks of the great "I AMs"; emphasis on the deity of Jesus 
Teaching is in depth, but without parables 

Time - thought to have been written from Ephesus about 90 AD, after the Book of Revelation
